Are you or your friends still worried about the supposed end of the Maya calendar and its alleged consequences? It would be understandable in view of all the idiotic, deliberately alarmist hype that was put about on the subject (it looks as if the gloom-mongers are going to have to be pretty quick about spending all that money you gave them, doesn't it?!). Some people even threatened to kill their pets and commit suicide. The French government issued a special mass-suicide warning. Paranoia ruled OK.
But be assured, it was all the purest nonsense. The end of the Mayan calendar, as the recent book '2012: It's Not the End of the World' explains, is not due for septillions or even octillions of years yet -- and there was no special galactic alignment on 21 December 2012 either!
